artistic DIRECTOR - Camille Couture-Carter

Camille Couture-Carter is a conductor, early childhood music educator, vocalist, and a native of Santa Cruz. As of 2016, she became the Artistic Director of the Ariose Singers.

During and immediately following receiving degrees in choral conducting from both the University of California at Santa Cruz and the University of Washington, Camille conducted church choirs and community ensembles for over 12 years. One of her favorite positions was that of chorus master for the BayShore Lyric Opera when it was still housed in the former Capitola Theatre.

While enjoying her multiple music jobs, eventually Camille sought new opportunities that resulted in a move to Southern California. While there, she worked in artistic administration and as an orchestra manager. It was during this same time that Camille became a wife and mother, and focus turned to family. While this was a joyous, busy and sleep-deprived part of life, music was never far from Camille’s heart. In fact, this period only served to deepen her appreciation and enthusiasm for music.

Now back in Santa Cruz, Camille is thrilled to once again be conducting, especially with the skilled and dedicated members of Ariose Singers. She looks forward to many seasons presenting beautiful choral works to Santa Cruz audiences.
